Youth Group

Middle School & High School Youth Group

In 2016, St. Mary’s began a new Youth Ministry. This ministry focuses on helping our young people live out their Baptismal covenant by giving them the opportunity to proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ. Each year the Youth Group (grades 5-12) addresses a concern that they as young Christian leaders have for the world, a topic that inspires them to action. This could be the environment, animal welfare, feeding the hungry or social justice. They research the topic and work to fully understand the needs of the community and the world. Working with Reverend Fran, the Youth Group plans a liturgy, chooses the readings and the music, writes the sermon, decorates the church and acts as lectors and ushers.   This Youth Service is conducted each year on the Sunday of Martin Luther King Day weekend during the 10:00 service.

As Christians, we are called to action, and each year the Youth Group reaches out to the world to serve. During the spring of 2016 the Youth Group sampled and tested the water quality of local rivers and lakes and reported on the health of our local water systems. In 2017, the Youth Group teamed up with On Angel’s Wings pet rescue to assist in finding the forever homes for abandoned and neglected pets.  In 2018, the focus was gun violence, and the youth created flags for every person killed with a gun in Illinois in 2017 - 928 flags in all!!

You do not have to be a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church to join in Youth Group activities, you just need to be willing to share your talents, so please feel free to invite your friends.

We are truly blessed with really great kids and we want our kids feel that they are blessed with a truly great parish.
