Care & Support

Deacons

St. Mary's is fortunate to have two long-time ordained deacons on its staff; Deacon Barb Bishop and Deacon Diane Koenig. Deacons have responded to the call from God to that order of ministry and the Church confirmed its blessing on them through the laying on the hands by the Bishop.

This ministry is one of leadership through service – to seek and to serve. In our parish the deacons have a variety of ministries.  They do a lot of listening to parishioners concerns maintaining a pastoral/confidential presence for them.  They visit the sick and home-bound bringing communion and praying with them.

Lay-Chaplain

Receiving training through the Bishop Anderson House in Chicago, this ministry embraces the compassion of our Lord Jesus Christ to go out in the world and be His voice, ears, hands and arms to those who are suffering in body, mind or spirit.

A strong calling to care for the very sick, the dying, and to those who are alone is beneficial. To be presence and have a "listening" ear  for those who are suffering. Being there for someone in these very difficult times of life often brings much comfort and peace.  This ministry also brings with it the constant reminder that we are never alone and Jesus is always walking beside us... "Come unto me, all ye that travail and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest"  Matthew 11:28
